Call for Submissions: UNDP Undergraduate Essay Competition - Nigeria

Undergraduate students in Nigeria can win up to NGN 1,000,000 by participating in the UNDP essay competition on tax policies and sustainable development. Deadline: October 1, 2024.


The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) invites undergraduate students in Nigeria to participate in an essay competition focused on how tax policies can advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria.

Objective

The competition aims to engage undergraduate students in a discourse on the role of taxation, trade, and sustainable development. Participants will deepen their understanding of public finance and its impact on various dimensions of sustainable development.

Theme

Participants are encouraged to write on one of the following thematic areas:

  • Exploring the potential of innovative tax policies and strategies to drive sustainable development and address the SDGs financing gap in Nigeria.
  • Exploring the linkages between inclusive and sustainable tax systems and their impact on environmental sustainability, the digital economy, and trade.
  • Strengthening tax systems to combat illicit financial flows in Nigeria to progress towards closing the SDGs financing gap.

Award Information

  • First Prize: NGN 1,000,000 and a certificate of recognition.
  • Second Prize: NGN 750,000 and a certificate of recognition.
  • Third Prize: NGN 500,000 and a certificate of recognition.

Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open to all undergraduate Nigerian students currently enrolled in a recognized university or college in Nigeria. Participants must submit a national ID and their university identification.
