Overview

The World of 8 Billion Challenge invites participants to create a one-minute video addressing one of this year’s global topics. Share your sustainable solution and explain how human population growth impacts the chosen topic.

Topics & Themes

Choose one of the following themes to focus on:

  • Child Wellbeing: Focus on subtopics such as Education Access, Child Labor, Environmental Justice, Wealth Inequality, Healthy Children, or Teen Pregnancy and Marriage.
  • Rainforest Ecosystems: Focus on subtopics such as Biodiversity, Deforestation, Zoonotic Disease, Indigenous Communities, Ecosystem Services, or Globalization.
  • Sanitation: Focus on subtopics such as Sanitation Access, Sewage Treatment Infrastructure, Water Contamination, Urbanization, Public Health, or Economic Impacts.

Prize Information

Prizes are awarded by topic in the following categories:

  • High School (9th-12th Grade):
    • First Place: $1,200
    • Second Place: $600
    • Two Honorable Mentions: $300 each
  • Middle School (6th-8th Grade):
    • First Place: $600
    • Second Place: $300
  • Global Finalists:
    • High School: $80
    • Middle School: $50
  • International by Region Honor: Seven prizes awarded to the best video from each world region.
  • State Honor: 50 prizes awarded to the best video in each U.S. state.
